I’ve written about small airplanes making emergency landings a few times in 2014. During these landings, luckily nobody was seriously injured and they made for great stories.
I just came across a story from Sarasota County, Florida about a plane that was making an emergency landing on a beach. This time, unlike the other times, the landing had a sad and tragic ending.
ABC News reports that a 36-year-old man was killed and his daughter (around 9-10 years old) was critically injured when a plane making an emergency landing hit them while they were walking on the beach.
The family was walking along the beach when the plane came in, making the emergency landing along the shore. The man was killed on impact.
A woman thought to be the man’s wife was taken to the hospital due to “having stress-induced cardiac issues” most likely caused by witnessing the crash.
Neither the pilot nor the passenger on the plane were injured.
