Earlier today a hangar at Newark Airport (EWR) partially collapsed while it was being demolished. 9 workers were inside at the time.
Four men had to be sent to the hospital although, according to CBS NY the “injuries weren’t considered to be life-threatening“.The hangar was an old United Airlnes building which is now owned by the Port Authority and hasn’t been used in 10 years.
The Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting units, PANYNJ ESU and the regional Urban Search and Rescue team were on the scene to help after the accident took place.
CBS New York’s article reports that the old hangar “is rich in history and has welcomed many VIPs, including President Nixon who spoke there in May, 1971“.
