What We Did During An 8 Hour Layover In Frankfurt

We’re heading to Germany in a couple of hours. Here is a post about one way we got prepared for Oktoberfest while still on another trip.

On the way home from the Balkans we had an eight-hour layover in Frankfurt. We planned to head into the city to kill a little time since neither of us had every been to the city before.

Kim and I did some reading about Frankfurt and neither of us came up with much to do. We figured at worst we could just wander around the city center and grab something to eat before heading back to the airport for our flight home.

Soon after, we came up with a plan- the perfect way to make good use of our time rather than just wander around.

Progress In Planning: We’re Heading To Germany For Oktoberfest

GermanyMapI rarely re-visit countries that I’ve already been to but there is one place that I’ve been wanting to head back to for quite some time.

I went to Germany with one of my brother’s years back after finding a great fare. We paid $267 round trip to fly from Newark to Cologne. I was off of work and Kim wasn’t (she didn’t even want to go to Germany) so I went with my brother for a week. We visited Munich and Cologne and had a great time. We ate at a different beer hall every night and I hoped to return some day to get to experience Oktoberfest.

While looking over my work schedule last year the dates of Oktoberfest worked for me but Kim wasn’t off so I’d have to wait for another time. Also, I couldn’t leave her at home for a week with Lucas being only 9 months old.

I decided to look into the possibility of heading to Oktoberfest this year and things seemed to fall perfectly into place.

Years Back, I Found Some Vanilla In Germany

a building with a cone on top

Last week I wrote a post about Lucas liking Vanilla. I started thinking some more about Vanilla and it reminded me of something that I saw on my trip to Germany years back.

My brother and I went to Germany and had a great time in Munich and Cologne. We tried out lots of great beers in massive beer halls and visited lots of amazing sites.

While thinking about Vanilla I was reminded of a really bizarre building that we had came across in Cologne. The building had an upside down vanilla ice cream cone on the roof!
