Over the past year, many people have moved to working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Various countries and states have offered perks for people to become digital nomads, moving there long term or even permanently. Northwest Arkansas was offering $10,000 + a free bike to move there.
Now, West Virginia is looking to entice remote workers with the new Ascend WV program.
Through the program, you can get “$12,000 and a year’s worth of free outdoor recreation if they move to the Mountain State“, according to Travel + Leisure.
For now, you’ll need to commit to live in Morgantown. Later on, other cities will be added to the program like Shepherdstown and Lewisburg.
The program is being funded in part by West Virginia native Brad D. Smith and his wife Alys who gave a $25 million grant.
Besides the cash ($12,00 with no strings attached), you’ll also enjoy one year of free outdoor recreation on public lands; access to free co-working space in West Virginia’s mountain towns; free access to outdoor gear rentals; the ability to earn remote work certifications through West Virginia University; and networking opportunities and events.
West Virginia sounds like an outdoor lovers paradise with over 1.5 million acres of public lands and 1,500 miles of public trails. There also the New River Gorge Park and Preserve, the newest US National Park!
