Disney Parks Making Big Change To Help The Environment

Disney ParksEarlier in 2018 I wrote how Disney World was doing something which wasn’t very nice by adding a new fee.

Disney Parks typically bring smiles to the faces to those who visit. Now the parks will be doing something to make environmentalists happy!

Travel + Leisure reports that, “Disney Will Eliminate Plastic Straws From Its Parks by 2019.”

With this commitment to help the environment, all owned and operated Disney parks (excluding Tokyo), will eliminate single- use plastic straws and stirrers. That’s a lot less plastic being used!

In fact, T+L reports that, “Disney said this will amount to a reduction of more than 175 million straws and 13 million stirrers annually.”

The company isn’t limiting environmentally friendly changes to Disney parks. The company plans to start using reusable in-room amenities at hotels and on cruise ships. Disney Stores will also start offering reusable bags for purchase rather than just packing items in plastic bags.

These changes definitely sound like positive ones which I’m for, however, I’m curious to see what kind of straws options they will have especially for little kids and people with disabilities.

What do you think about the move to eliminate single-use straws?

  1. Straws are so yesterday. Everyone else is doing this so big corporate will follow along. There is a reason we went from plastic to paper straws. Why…because paper straws fall apart and don’t work as well. I don’t even like using straws and usually don’t use one in drinks. It will be fun to see how the paper straw fad works in the long run. Check back in about January 2020 and see where we are at. I’m all about eliminating trash but I’m just not sure this is the way to go. Why don’t they just eliminate straws completely. That way they could eliminate the plastic lids and not cut down trees to create the paper straws either.
