Over the past few years there’s been lots of posts about the Bourdain Market. In the end, the chef turned author turned traveling TV host will not be opening his market in NYC.
Food halls are a fun place to visit due to the variety of options being offered. NYC has lots of excellent food halls, with more in the works. Since opening, our new favorite is DeKalb Market in Brooklyn, NY.
The borough is about to get some big competition from Time Out.
When I think of Time Out, I think of the magazines which share info in its many editions in cities around the world.
I didn’t know that Time Out had markets (food halls) until doing research for our upcoming trip to Portugal. (The first Time Out Market opened in Lisbon in 2014 and we’ll most likely visit it next week!)
Time Out Market New York is set to open later in the year in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood. This will be another big reason to head to the area with Brooklyn Bridge Park probably being #1. (There’s also Jacques Torres for chocolate & ice cream, great pizza from Grimaldi’s & Juliana’s and more.)
The New York Post reports that Time Out Market New York will be, “a huge culinary mecca comprising restaurants, bars and food-related “cultural experiences” — has signed a lease for 21,000 square feet on two levels at Dumbo’s booming Empire Stores.”
The New York location will be based off of the original in Lisbon while offering views of Brooklyn Bridge Park and the East River.
The market will have 520 seats- inside and outside, offering food from 20 yet to be named shops, three bars and a stage for performances.
I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely excited by this news!
