The Michael W Travels family is heading off on our spring break trip today.
We’ll be flying out of Newark Airport on United Airlines before transferring to Asiana to reach our final destination.
I received an interesting and helpful e-mail from United Airlines about our upcoming flight.
The subject of the e-mail pretty much explains it all: Allow extra time at Newark.
Not so surprising considering it is Spring Break!
The e-mail mentions that “Newark airport (EWR) is experiencing especially high volumes of traffic. To allow time for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening for you and your bags, we recommend arriving at the airport at least two hours before your scheduled departure time, especially if you’re checking baggage.”
To be honest, this doesn’t really change much for us. Kim and I always like to get to the airport early. For international flights we aim to be there at least 3 hours in advance.
This gives us time to deal with anything that might come up, especially with our two little guys. (We also don’t mind having the extra time to make a stop at a lounge when possible!)
I was wondering if other airlines sent out e-mails to let passengers know that they should be at the airport earlier due to Spring Break?
So just a reminder, if you are traveling over Spring Break, expect longer wait times at the airport for TSA screening.
I have received this email almost every time I’ve flown from newark over the past 1.5 years (fly from there every 3 months or so)
