Uber has proven to be quite a popular and useful service, thanks in part to some awesome promos. (Have any of you taken advantage of the free airport ride offer?)
I’ve only used Uber for shorter rides with our longest trips being… home from the airport a few times.
Have you ever wondered what the longest Uber ride has been?
I can’t say that I have, but one driver I met over the summer told me that he drove a passenger over 4 hours one time. If you ask me, that sounds really far, especially when you probably won’t have a paying fare back to where you started…
Kim sent me an article a couple of days back about the longest ride in Uber history, according to the New York Post.
The Post writes how a Uber driver in Virginia, Janis Rogers picked up a passenger and drove her 400 miles in close to eight hours to Brooklyn, NY!
The passenger was picked up outside of a Ben & Jerry’s in Williamsburg, Virginia and went to Bedford- Stuyvesant (Bed-Stuy) in Brooklyn. (Too bad the passenger didn’t request to go to Williamsburg, Brooklyn which is close by.)
The ride took place back on June 9. The young woman needed to get to Brooklyn to see her boyfriend.
The ride actually took seven hours & 42 minutes and cost $294.09. What’s crazier than the distance and cost of the ride is that the driver, Janis Rogers didn’t even stop for a potty break.
The NY Post mentions that the same ride in a yellow cab would cost close to $1,200 so that Uber ride is definitely sounding like a real bargain. However, a flight could’ve cost $188, a train $85 and the bus $45.
The passenger slept the entire way in the back of the 2005 Prius and once Rogers dropped off the woman she drove right back to Virginia, getting home around 3:45 AM.
Imagine doing all of that driving just to make around $9 per hour.

Wow! That is nuts! I just used the *free* uber ride from JFK yesterday! My ride wasn’t $65 =( It was close though. I ordered the uber during prime rush hour, 5pm ish. Uber pool was $51.xx and uberblack was $70.xx so I opted for black and paid a few dollars extra. Not too bad, but not free haha! Ride still took 55 min to get home.
