I recently wrote about the Willard Intercontinental Hotel offering a new Kiddie Concierge service. The service actually sounds pretty awesome and useful for families visiting the hotel.
There are other hotels with interesting and odd hotel assistant jobs and some have unique concierges.
A DC area Kimpton Hotel is now getting a Watch Butler!
If I had to guess what a watch butler might do, I’d think they might do something like clean a guest’s watch but that’s not what the job entails.
At the Kimpton Hotel, Mason & Rook located on 14th Street in DC, there will be a Shinola Watch Butler. (Shinola is an American-made brand based in Detroit.)
Thanks to the Kimpton- Shinola partnership, “This unparalleled hotel amenity allows guests to borrow a handsomely crafted Shinola watch during their stay at no expense”, according to a press release I was sent.
The hotel will have a rotating groups of eight watches to choose from. The hotel staff will help guests pick out the watch that’s right for them whether its for work or play.
Here are the watches which will be on display in the hotel’s lobby:
- 47mm Runwell (2 different styles)
- 41mm Runwell
- 38mm Canfield
- 36mm Runwell
- 41mm Runwell
- 36mm Gomelsky
- 34mm Birdy
This is definitely an interesting amenity to offer guests but I’m not so sure that I’d bother. I happen to like my watches and who wants to be responsible for one of the hotel’s watches! Probably not me…
How do you feel about the idea of borrowing a watch from a hotel? Good idea or looking for trouble?

Pat- Can’t disagree there. What kind of watches do you like?
This is a cool idea, but if it isn’t a mechanical watch, it isn’t a luxury watch.
