In July 2012, Kim, my brother and I ran in the Teterboro Airport 5K Runway Run.
During the visit to Teterboro, I had also hoped to visit the Aviation Hall of Fame & Museum of New Jersey after the run. However, it was a really hot day and we were exhausted from the race, so we passed.
My brother just sent me some info about a great reason to visit the Aviation HOF of NJ this weekend!
On August 20 and August 21 a special event will take place called Open Cockpit Weekend.
Open Cockpit Weekend will go from 10AM to 4PM (both days).
Visitors will get to explore and see some aircrafts up close. The event is called open cockpit weekend for a reason, you’ll get to go in the cockpit of some of the aircrafts!
You’ll have the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of:
- TWA Convair 880 Bush Plane
- Cobra AH-1 Gunship Helicopter
- HH-52A Coast Guard Helicopter
- OV-1A Mohawk “close-support aircraft”
- Bell 47 Helicopter
- An Aircraft Control Demonstrator
- The cab of an airport rescue and fire-fighting truck
Pilots will also be around to help explain how the controls and instruments on the aircrafts work. During your visit you can also check out the museum’s multimedia, international space station and Buzz Aldrin exhibits.
Overall this sounds like a fun event but I doubt that I’ll be able to make it. I think that I’d enjoy it and I also think it could be a really cool events for kids.
Open Cockpit Weekend costs $10 for adults, $8 for seniors & kids under 12 years of age. Children 2 and under are free.
The Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey is located at Teterboro Airport- 400 Fred Wehran Road Teterboro, NJ.
