Just about every sports teams has an official airline
Last year I wrote about American Airlines becoming the official airline of the Chicago Cubs. American Airlines also became the official airline of the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers last year. JetBlue is the official airline of the New England Patriots and the Boston Celtics.
Now MLB’s Washington Nationals have a new official airline.
Delta Airlines sent out a press release saying that “Delta Steps Up to the Plate in Nation’s Capital as Official Airline of Washington Nationals“.
The funny thing about this new partnership is that Delta sponsors close to half the teams in Major League Baseball!
Delta is the official airline of my favorite team, the New York Mets. They’re also the official airline for the NY Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, and Minnesota Twins. They also operate team charters for the Braves, Twins, Yankees, Mets, Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Angels, Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays.
So what does Delta do as the official airline of the Washington Nationals?
- Delta will fly the Nats to and from every away game.
- Sponsorship of the Delta Sky360 Club, a branded hospitality experience within Nationals Park and premium section of branded seating behind home plate
- Permanent signage on the outfield wall, as well as home-plate, baseline rotational, out-of-town scoreboard and LED signage.
The Nationals and Delta will celebrate this partnership with the team’s presidents mascots making an appearance at Reagan Washington National Airport on April 4.

If only this meant that Delta would increase their presence at DCA. With the recent changes to AAdvantage, I’m not so excited about the prospect of switching loyalty programs when I move this year.
