Have you ever wondered where the world’s oldest hotel was located and just how old it might be?

I can’t say that this ever crossed my mind until I came across a very interesting article from Fortune.com which shared the details about Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan, located in Japan.

Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan is over 1,300 years old.

What might be more impressive than the hotel’s age is the fact that is has been run by the same family for all of that time! We’re talking 52 generations of descendants of the founder Fujiwara Mahito.

The hotel is in the Guinness Book of World Records, listed as the world’s oldest hotel dating from 705 AD.

According to Fortune, “There aren’t many types of people who haven’t stayed at the Keiunkan… Guests are said to include everyone from politicians to samurai“. It also mentions that the guests come for the hot springs which have been flowing since the hotel opened.

The hotel has 37 rooms and was last renovated in 1997. It also isn’t cheap with rooms starting at around $440 per night.

Impressive stuff if you ask me!
