With 2014 quickly coming to a close, I decided to apply for the Barclaycard US Airways Mastercard a few weeks back. I figured that it was an easy way to add 40,000 miles before the card disappeared and the program became a part of AAdvantage.
I used the card for a small charge one time and will be receiving the bonus soon after I pay my bill which includes the annual fee of $89.
The card went away and I didn’t think much more about it until yesterday.
I received an e-mail about an increased offer to 50,000 bonus Dividend Miles after making a purchase and felt kinda annoyed at my bad timing. Had I waited to apply, I would’ve been getting an additional 10,000 miles.
My short-lived annoyance gave me an idea. Why not write a quick message asking for the increased bonus.
I logged into my Barclaycard account and headed over to the contact us tab. I then wrote a short message politely asking for the increased bonus offer.
Here is what I wrote:
To Whom It May Concern,
I just received my new Barclays US Airways credit card and think it offers some very nice benefits.
When I signed up I was supposed to receive 40,000 bonus miles after making a purchase and paying the annual fee. I just found out that the offer for the exact card I received is 50,000 bonus miles!
I am writing to request that you honor the new promo for my card. I received it not even one month ago and I would greatly appreciate this gesture.
Thank you,
Michael W.
After submitting my message it said that I’d get a response in a few hours (or something along those lines…).
A little over 2 hours later I received a message from Barclaycard.
Dear Michael W :
Thank you for contacting us regarding your US Airways Dividend Miles World MasterCard. Welcome to the BarclaycardUS family of credit cards! We can certainly address your inquiry regarding the bonus miles on your account.
We are pleased to inform you that we have awarded your account the additional 10,000 miles….
Talk about amazing customer service! A speedy response and they are honoring the newer offer just because I asked nicely! 🙂
Don’t forget– If you see a better offer on a credit card that you’ve recently applied for, be sure to contact them and ask for the increased bonus offer. You’ve got nothing to lose even if they say no to the proposal.
