Halloween can be a really fun day for all ages. Growing up I always looked forward to this ghoulish day but as I got older, (like most I’d assume) I became less enthusiastic about it.
In my adult life I’ve only dressed up a handful of times that I can recall. I dressed up as a baseball player, in my idea of traditional German clothing (not what I’ve worn to Oktoberfest) and DJ Lance from Yo Gabba Gabba. I may have left out one other time that I’ve dressed up but I can’t think of what I dressed as.
This year Lucas has really taken notice of Halloween. I’m not sure if I’ll dress up or not but I’m leaning towards doing so. I’d love to make the day as fun as possible for Lucas so besides going trick or treating maybe I’ll try to come up with a fun costume.
Since trick or treating is for kids, how can and do adults celebrate?
The first thing that came to mind was going to the Halloween Parade in NYC a couple of times. It’s always fun to see the creative and crazy costumes that some of the participants come up with!
What about Halloween celebrations in other places around the U.S.?
I have little clue but Fodor’s has some ideas.
Fodor’s came up with a slideshow of 10 Best Halloween Celebrations in the U.S.
I was curious to see what they came up with and not so surprisingly, NYC’s Village Halloween Parade was the first thing on the list.
Here is Fodor’s list of 10 Best Halloween Celebrations:
- Village Halloween Parade– New York City
- Sleepy Hollow Halloween– Sleepy Hollow, NY
- West Hollywood Carnaval– Los Angeles
- Festival of the Dead– Salem, Massachusetts
- Emma Crawford Festival– Manitou Springs, CO
- Little Five Points Halloween Festival– Atlanta
- Halloween in New Orleans– New Orleans
- Las Vegas Halloween– Las Vegas
- Halloween on Halsted– Chicago
- The Louisville Zoo Halloween Party– Louisville
I’ve only had the chance to celebrate Halloween at one of the places from this list. Kim and I visited Salem a few summer’s back so I’d love to hear what their celebration is like.
If you know of any other great Halloween celebrations taking place around the country, let us know about it in the comments below.

In NOLA this weekend
Salem for Samhain is too crowded
Go off season!
Deltagoldlass- Sounds like you really enjoy the Halloween festivities! Enjoy NO! We love it there. Went to Salem in Summer of 2011. Interesting area but the witch stuff is a bit much. I enjoyed the old cemetaries and taking a NPS tour of some of the old homes.
