A Czech man was caught trying to board a flight with 247 live animals in his luggage. Included were poisonous snakes and endangered reptiles. The man, Karel Abelovsky was in Argentina trying to board a flight to Madrid. He was caught by baggage x-ray technicians and staff at the Iberia Airlines counter when they noticed “organic substances moving inside”.
Some of the animals are extremely rare and protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species.
Abelovsky has been charged with attempted smuggling & faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
