The two NYC airports, JFK and LaGuardia will soon have the capabilities to test passengers for COVID-19.
The airports will have testing facilities set up “to screen passengers arriving into New York City for signs of COVID-19″, according to Lonely Planet.
Earlier this week, Governor Cuomo said “the new testing facilities will allow the state to do faster testing of the people coming in.”
The facilities will be set up by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and NYC Health + Hospitals.
New York State was one of the hardest hit in the US with COVID-19 cases early on during the pandemic. The state now has low rates of COVID due in part to the slow reopening of the economy and “widespread testing.”
There is no date set as to when the tests will be available at the two NYC airports. There’s also no details regarding cost and the test result turnaround.
Currently, visitors coming in from high risk states need to self-quarantine for two weeks and fill out a form at the airport with their contact information and their address of where they’ll be staying.
