Driver Eduardo Madiedo picked up a man and woman in Astoria, Queens a little over a week back and was heading to Mount Sinai Queens hospital when the attack took place.
Video recorded in the car shows the man resting his head in the woman’s lap while also groaning and making sounds like he was in pain. Later on, he’s seen taking his shirt off.
Definitely bizarre behavior!
Soon after, he asks the driver to go faster. When the driver, Madiedo says that he can’t due to traffic and the car in front of him, the passenger gets angry.
After the passenger cursed at Madiedo, he replied, “Excuse me, man, if you’re going to be disrespectful, I’ll just pull over right now.”
The passenger then went crazy! As the car is still moving, he starts punching Madiedo in the back of his head while screaming “you f*cked up.” He then gets out of the car and punches Madiedo through the car window.
As the attack took place, the woman can be heard screaming “George“.
The passenger has since surrendered to the police with his mother in Queens. Gothamist reports that, “George Catalano, 36, was charged with reckless endangerment and assault for the incident.”
As for the Lyft driver Madiedo, he’s now reconsidering whether or not he should continue to drive for the ride share service. He claims to still have pain on the side of his head as well as suffering from anxiety.
