There’s a Disney park in many destinations around the world. Could a new one be opening in Laos?
Disney has parks in Florida, California, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai. So, will Disney be expanding in Southeast Asia?
I’ll cut to the chase and say that Disney is not opening in Laos but a Disney park is being planned.
Confused? I’ll explain.
According to T+L,”The Disney Laos amusement park is not a Disney property at all, but ratherΒ an unaffiliated project currently under construction by Lao entrepreneurs who have a hazy understanding of global intellectual property law“.
Disney Laos will be located in Thahhaek in Khammuan province. The investment group behind the project hopes it will be completed in 7-10 years.
I wonder if Disney lawyers will get involved to stop this project? Then again, do copyright laws even apply there?!

Tom- I have to look up the Hello Kitty resort! I doubt they can do much about it.
I think it’s the same hazy issue with Hello Kitty resort in Thailand. Not sure if the government or Disney/Sanrio itself can do anything with it.
