Budget Travel has an article featuring a list of 10 Natural Phenomena That You Need To See To Believe. The list is pretty impressive and there are a few things from it that I have wanted to see for some time now. I’ve also had a chance to experience a couple of phenomena from their list.
Here is the list:
- Aurora Borealis (The Northern Lights), Norway
- Monarch Migrations, Valle de Bravo, Mexico
- Coral Spawning, Bonaire
- Firefly Trees, Papua New Guinea
- Geothermal Pools, Yellowstone National Park, USA
- Jellyfish Lake, Palau
- Glowworm Caves, Waitomo, New Zealand
- Bioluminescent Bay, Vieques, Puerto Rico
- Calving Glacier (Sermeq Kujalleq), Ilulissatlcefjord, Greenland
- Volcan Pacaya, Guatemala
Aurora Borealis |
On my visit to New Zealand I got to visit the Waitomo Caves. It was an amazing experience. Kim and I did a tubing tour of the caves. We had to wear wetsuits and helmets with headlamps. When the small group shut off the headlamps we were in total darkness asides from the glowworms hanging from the ceilings
Another thing from the list we did, was get to hike Volcan Pacaya in Guatemala. While we didn’t see lava flowing right by our feet, we did have a great time running down parts of the volcano. We also came to an area where the ground was very hot and you could see flames under the crust. Kim and I came prepared with a bag of marshmallows and had a great time roasting them!

While all of these natural phenomena sound amazing, I’ve been wanting to see The Northern Lights and Jellyfish Lake for some time now. I might have to add a few more things from this list to mine!
