At the 2019 New York Times Travel Show I spent some time chatting with the team from travel clothing company Bluffworks.
I had heard of them before but never actually seen their products. I was very impressed with what I saw and hoped to give the brand a try.
The folks from Bluffworks were nice enough to send me a few items to test out.
Bluffworks makes items which I’d say are geared towards business casual. What’s nice is that their more businessy items like blazers, chinos and dress shirts can also be worn for more casual occasions, too.
Here are the items I tested out:
Horizon Quilted Vest- Dark Sapphire: $155The Horizon Vest is a sharp-looking item. It’s safe to say that it can be dressed up or down.
I really like the look of the vest due to the quilted exterior. The one big negative I felt was that it’s cut a bit short. That might be a personal preference.
The vest is a great item to wear to store your personal items like a phone, charger, keys and more when traveling, considering it does have lots of pockets. (Seven to be exact!) There’s even a zippered inside pocket large enough to hold your passport.
I like that the vest is water repellent but I did not test it out in the rain.
Overall, I found the Horizon Quilted Vest to be a really nice, well-made item.
Travel Jeans: $125The Bluffworks Travel Jeans look like an ordinary pair of jeans (not in a bad way) but they’re designed with an active lifestyle in mind.
They’re made from a variety of materials which are supposed to make them breathable, lightweight, stretchy and moisture wicking. While this all sounds great, I didn’t find this to be true when wearing the jeans in hot weather.
When the jeans are pulled on, they actual do have a cooling feel to them. However, once I walked around in them, I started to feel warm. This was the case on every occasion that I wore them. To be honest, I hate wearing jeans when it is warm out.
The jeans also felt top heavy which I felt could be due to extra material on the backside which is needed for a couple of hidden pockets. (Directly below the back waist are two hidden pockets. They can be used to hide money but I couldn’t see myself actually using them.)
I’m not sure if I got a bad pair or not and while I really wanted to like them, I can’t say that I’m a fan.
Meridian Dress Shirt 2.0- Deep Blue-Mini Check: $98
I’ll start this part off with four words- I LOVE this shirt!
I recently wore this shirt to a tourism event for Nepal. It was an extremely hot day in NYC and this shirt really delivered.
Not only does the shirt look great (I wore it with shorts), it’s breathable and lightweight. The shirt looks dressy and casual at the same time so it will definitely be going into my rotation!
Bluffworks says that the shirt is “anti-microbial, wear for multiple days without washing“. I will say that I was a little sweaty on that hot NY day but the shirt still smelled nice and fresh. (Trust me!) I plan to test wearing it out for a few days without a wash in the future.
Another nice detail are the included metal collar stays.
The Meridian might be pricey but I highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed!
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I am happy with the quality of the travel clothing from Bluffworks. Not all of the items were perfect for me, maybe they would be for you. Out of the three items I tried, I loved one item, really liked another and wasn’t a fan of the other.
I am curious to see how other Bluffworks pants compare to the jeans. There are also some other interesting item in their collection that I’m curious about.

FYI: Bluffworks sent me the items in this post. In no way did this have any influence on my reivew. The thoughts and opinions shared in this post are my own.
