A Delta passenger was sentenced to two years in prison for a fight he caused during a flight last summer.
The man, 24 year-old Joseph Hudek IV was “deeply sorry for everything that happened“, according to Fox News.
Around an hour into a flight from Seattle to Beijing, Hudek tried opening an exit door on the plane. He then attacked a flight attendant and passengers who tried to stop him.
The story is a bit crazy. It was reported that Hudek went to the restroom, came out to ask a flight attendant a question and then came out again, this time with his shirt off. He then “lunged for the exit door, screaming I want to get out.”
He punched a flight attendant who tried to stop him and hit one passenger on the head with a wine bottle. He was eventually restrained and the flight returned to Seattle.
In February, Hudek pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon and interfering with a flight crew. He told the judge that the cause of his behavior was edible marijuana he took before the flight.
This kind of outcome should deter others from acting out during flights, causing major inconveniences for other passengers while also costing the airline money.
