How would you like to help “start a dialogue between the people of the U.S. and DPRK?”
The DPRK, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea aka North Korea is very high on my list of countries to visit in the future.
One of the largest providers of trips to North Korea, Uri Tours has started a “Kickstarter campaign to encourage communication between the people of the United States and North Korea via postcards“.
So if you support this new campaign will you be getting a pen pal from North Korea. Well, not exactly…
If you choose to back Uri Tours on Kickstarter, for $10-$30 you’ll be actually backing a postcard (so to speak).
Once you back a postcard, you’ll be asked to share something about yourself and the postcard sender from North Korea will also do the same. You’ll receive the handwritten postcard which will be postmarked from Pyongyang later in the year.
Here is the cooler part of this project.
The stories of both parties will then be turned into an art installation which will be entered into Art Prize 2016 in Grand Rapids, Michigan!
The Kickstarter campaign started around a week back and will go until August 27. Uri Tours set a goal to raise $1,000 and they are already close to achieving that goal with $730 already raised from 47 backers.
Postcards are expected to be delivered in October on the 70th anniversary of the division of North and South Korea.
Uri Tours will also offer special Kickstarter-edition trips to backers.
