Yesterday I received a new bonus offer for my US Airways Mastercard.
Earlier in the year I received a bonus offer in the mail while this time it came via e-mail. However, this time around the offer is much less lucrative.
Back in April, Kim and I were each offered 15,000 bonus miles for spending $750 per month for May, June & July. This was an incredible deal and not to be missed. Find out more about it here.
This time around, I can earn a maximum bonus of 2,500 Dividend Miles. For every $1 that I spend in select categories, I will earn 2 bonus miles.
To earn the bonus miles, all spending must be done from January 1- March 31, 2014.
Earn up to 40,000 Dividend Miles by getting a U.S. Airways Premier World Mastercard.
The Categories:
- Grocery store purchases
- Movie theater purchases
- Utility payments (cable/ satellite TV or telephone company purchases)
While I’d love to earn the full amount of bonus miles, I don’t think that it will be possible.
Why? I have a problem with the categories that I can earn bonus miles for.
So what are my problems?
- I plan to take advantage of the grocery store purchases and will make the US Airways card my go to for this kind of spend. However, we only spend between $50-$80 per week in groceries. We’ll also be away for close to a week in January and March so I can’t see spending more than $700 in groceries in the first three months of 2014.
- Since Lucas was born (January 2011), Kim and I have gone to a movie one time. I don’t see this changing much in early 2014. (We also went to a screening of Smurfs 2 over the summer with Lucas thanks to Citi.)
- Utility payments would be a good category to earn bonus miles for but… Why would I settle for a maximum of 3x miles when my Chase Ink card gives me 5X point for this category? Since I have a ton of AAdvantage miles, I value Ultimate Rewards much more.
While this offer is nothing to get overly excited about, I’ll still gladly accept some bonus miles. It’s just too bad that I wasn’t offered a bonus for other categories that I could make use of.
From this offer I expect to earn around 1,200- 1,500 miles. It won’t get me far, but I’ll still gladly accept.
Keep an eye out for an offer in your e-mail if you have a US Airways Mastercard. If you’ve already received an offer, what did you get?

Jennifer C.- We don’t pay water, trash or electricity. It is included in our maintenance which can not be charged. As for Amazon and gas cards, those are always bought at Staples with my Ink card for 5X points. While I’d like to earn the full US Air bonus, if I don’t, it’s not the end of the world.
RE: INK Bold…bonus categories are only office supply stores, cellular phone, landline, internet, and cable TV services. You can use your USAirways card on water, trash, electricity and gas.
Also, grocery: Buy yourself some Amazon or gasoline gift cards and Bingo! spend tken care of and bonus miles earned.
I never get these offers! lucky you! :-/
Karl- I hope you are right and next time around I receive the 5X offer!
Charlotte- Not a bad plan if you dont have other cards offering these category bonuses. It also depends on if you are comfortable pre-paying some of these bills.
My offer is about the same, but lists utility, cable/satellite, and phone. So I am thinking it would not hurt to not only pay but future pay some electric or water bills?
Same categories, but 5 bonus miles for me. Last time around it was 2, so perhaps there’s a 2, 5 pattern emerging? There’s still the limit of 2500 miles, so it will only work for up to $500 spend. One visa gift card at a grocery store ought to cover that, though.
