A couple of days ago I received an e-mail from my friend Rene (who writes the blog Delta Points) containing an article with some alarming news.
In Sweden men are being warned to keep their bathing suits on while swimming in Oresund Sound. (I don’t know about you but I always swim with my bathing suit on.) The reason for this warning was the discovery of a relative to the piranha in the area.
A fisherman caught a 21 centimeter pacu which is known as a “ball breaker among male swimmers”.
According to the article in The Local (Sweden’s news in English), “The pacu is not normally dangerous to people but it has quite a serious bite, there have been incidents in other countries, such as Papua New Guinea where some men have had their testicles bitten off,” said Henrik Carl, fish expert at the Danish museum.
If I was in Sweden I wouldn’t be worrying too much. The warning from the National Museum of Denmark was meant as a joke.
This got me thinking. When I think of Sweden and fish I think of the tasty, gummy Swedish Fish candies not a fish with a mean bite.

Would you be afraid to swim in the Oresund Sound due to a possible encounter with the pacu?
