Registration is now open for the 2013 O’Hare Runway Run. Last year I flew out for a quick visit to Chicago to participate in the 5K run. I went with my brother and we made a great little trip out of the time we had, having a lot of fun along the way.
This year the race will be on Sunday, September 29. Last year the race was a 5K but for 2013 they also added a 10K race option. Money raised will go to a great cause, the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that helps wounded war veterans in various ways.I was hoping to head to Chicago again this year for the O’Hare 5K but the date does not work for me. We’ll be returning home a few days before from a different trip. (I’ll mention where we’ll be going soon. Check back!)
The race sounds really cool this year because it will take place on a brand new runway!
United Airline’s new runway 10C- 28C will be used and you can get a chance to run on it before any planes do. The runway is scheduled to open in October.
After the race there will be a Community Day “which will feature kids’ activities, live music, food from some of O’Hare’s restaurants, the Take-Off Trot kids’ dash, and a photo opportunity with a United Airlines airplane on the Runway!”

I love the airport runs! I have only done smaller airports – would love to do Chicago or jfk! I did do the Air Force marathon that has you running all over the Wright-Patterson base. That was pretty cool!
That’s awesome! My goal is to run a half-marathon, not sure if i will ever get to that level though. Chicago was a great runway run. Was planning to go again this year but we’ll be returning from a different trip just a couple of days before. JFK is an awesome run. We’ve done it two years in a row and plan to make it a third. You should come in and we could meet up for it!
