I’ve written about many flights being diverted in recent times but a new one that I came across from the AP happened for a pretty crazy reason.
Here are some flight diversions I’ve written about:
- JetBlue Flight To Las Vegas Diverted Due To Unruly Dad
- AA Flight Diverted Due To Broken Toilets
- Flight Diverted, Passengers Stuck Almost 24 Hours, Sleep In Military Barracks
- United Flight Diverted, Passengers Sleep On Floor At Airport
- NY Mets Flight Diverted
So what caused a flight to be diverted today? Credit cards… Kind of.
Alaska Airlines Flight 17 was flying from Newark Airport in New Jersey to Seattle when it had to make an emergency landing in Buffalo.
According to the AP, “smoke was detected in the galley“.
The cause of the smoke was a credit card reader that started smoking. The problem seemed to be from a melting battery. The crew sprayed the faulty device with a fire extinguisher and nobody onboard was injured.
Maybe its time for airlines to start accepting cash onboard again…
