Here is a way to earn up to 5,000 Delta SkyMiles for your upcoming Marriott stays…
Marriott Rewards members can choose to earn Delta SkyMiles for their stays. By making this selection and registering for a bonus offer you can earn 1,000 miles per stay. A maximum of 5,000 bonus SkyMiles can be earned with this promo.
The bonus can be earned for stays at select JW Marriott, Autograph Collection Hotels, Renaissance Hotels, Marriott Hotels and Gaylord Hotels.
Some Rules:
- To earn the bonus, you must register for it (link below)
- Don’t forget to choose Delta Airlines as your earning preference for your Marriott Rewards account
- Reservations must be made by December 31, 2014
- Stays must be completed by January 31, 2015
While looking over the terms of this offer I wasn’t happy to see how Marriott defined a stay. “A stay is defined as consecutive nights spent in the same hotel, regardless of check-in/check-out activity“.
So to earn each 1,000 SkyMiles bonus, 2 consecutive nights are required at the Marriott property you book.
I misread what Marriott considered a stay to mean which was pointed out by reader Bob. To clarify, I tweeted Marriott and got this response: One reservation equals one stay. A one night reservation would count as a stay.
If you’re planning to stay at a Marriott and would prefer to earn Delta miles, then this is a nice little bonus. However, I by no means would go out of my way to book due to this promo.

I’m fairly sure you’re misreading the definition of a stay. They are simply saying you can’t book 4 nights at one hotel, check in and out every day and call it 4 stays. There is no chance they mean a “stay” must be more than 1 night.
Bob- You might be right. I re-read the terms and it is a bit confusing. I sent a tweet to Marriott to try to clarify. Let’s see if they respond.
Bob- You were right. Marriott responded to my tweet and clarified the terms. The post has been updated. Thanks!
