An airline passenger spotted a man texting about child sex abuse which led to the arrest of two people.
Sounds like a story out of a television crime drama, right? Well it’s actually a true story.
The female passenger was sitting behind Michael Kellar who was “texting about sexually assaulting children“, according to Yahoo News. This led to the arrest of two people- one each in California and Washington state.
Kellar was arrested at San Jose Airport after a flight from Seattle. His texting led police to arrest Gail Burnworth at her home in Tacoma, Washington.
Yahoo mentions that it appeared that the children, ages 5 and 7 were sexually assaulted. Burnworth was their babysitter and Kellar was getting to the children through her.
The passenger was sitting behind Kellar who was texting in “a large font on a large smartphone.” The font and screen were large enough to allow the woman to take photos of Kellar’s texts.
The passenger alerted the flight crew who then “notified an officer stationed at the airport, and Kellar was arrested.”
Kellar is being accused of attempted child molestation and solicitation of a sex crime. Burnworth was arrested on suspicion of child rape and sexual exploitation of children.
It isn’t polite to eavesdrop on other people’s conversations or texts but in this case it’s a good thing that the passenger behind Kellar caught the conversation. It looks like it should hopefully get two disgusting people a place behind bars.
