I came across a very interesting article from USA Today about a new kind of suite which was recently put in at Milwaukee’s airport.
No, Milwaukee didn’t get an Amex Centurion Lounge or a Delta SkyDeck but what they did get was something that should be a huge help to new moms.
MIlwaukee’s Gen. George Mitchell Airport had a ribbon cutting ceremony to “celebrate the installation of three self-contained breastfeeding and pumping stations, or lactation suites, for nursing moms”.
The airport claims to be family friendly and now wants to fulfill a need that they saw to help nursing and pumping moms have a place to go and not feel rushed.
One of the suites will be installed pre-security while the other two will be post security.
The suites are made by Mamava, a Burlington, VT based company. The suites have “comfortable seating, electrical outlets and a fold-down table and will be available free of charge”. That’s a pretty amazing amenity to add to an airport!
USA Today says “An increasing number of airports around the country are creating nursing stations for traveling mothers“.
MKE is the first US Airport to buy the Mamava suites and plans are being hammered out to sell 11 post to the Port Authority of New York. 3 suites would be go to JFK, LGA & EWR. It doesn’t mention where the last two would be sent.
