During summer 2019, the Michael W Travels family spent four weeks traveling around South Asia. During the trip we visited five countries in the region.
When visiting a new country, we make it a point to stop at McDonald’s. The primary reason is to see what local/ unique menu items are available. It’s also a treat for our two kids!
While visiting Sri Lanka, we ended up dining at McDonald’s as our final meal. We stopped into a location in the country’s capital, Colombo.
While looking over the menu, a few items caught my attention. Here is what we tried at McDonald’s in Sri Lanka!
Spicy McWings:
I’ve had wings before at McD’s but don’t recall them being named Spicy McWings (love the name, hoped they weren’t overly spicy!).
When I opened the box, I was impressed by how crispy the chicken looked.
The first bite confirmed that these we very crispy but also pretty spicy. There was also a bit of greasiness to them. Overall, these were very good wings.
What impressed us most was that the chicken felt like it was homemade not from a fast food restaurant.
Theo kept busy with his nuggets while Lucas was making friends in the play area. Isn’t this a really cool McDonald’s hat?!
Curry N’Rice:
The Curry N’ Rice was the most local item on the menu.
I loved the tasty and mild curry sauce which came on the side, however, the chicken itself was very spicy. I would’ve liked this dish much more had the heat on the chicken been toned down a bit.
Overall, this tasted pretty authentic and the curry sauce reminded us of others we ate around the country.
Spicy Chicken Footlong:
This might be the first time I’ve ever seen a hero or hoagie (or whatever you want to call it!) at McDonald’s so I had to give it a try.
I’m pretty sure that the chicken was the same spicy variety which was in the Curry N’ Rice. The roll was nice and soft and toppings inside included lettuce, onion and mayo.
I was beyond happy that there was mayo which helped to cool the spice from the chicken. If I were to see this offered again, I’d most likely pass.
Final Thoughts:
I was happy to see a trio of interesting items to try on the menu at McDonald’s Sri Lanka, I just wish that they weren’t all spicy!
Regardless, I’m glad we stopped by. The food was decent enough and the kids had a fun time!

I can see why it was too spicy for you. But however for Sri Lankans it’s the right amount if spiciness and the sales would probably go down if it was very mildly spicy
