Hotel Review: Kimpton Eventi New York City

kimpton eventiI recently shared details about what I booked with my last uncapped IHG anniversary free night.

Last year, I used my free night for a stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Philadelphia. After the stay, I felt the property was worth writing a review about. Check out my review of the Kimpton Monaco here.

This year, I was hoping to use my anniversary free night for a trip being planned. However, nothing really made sense for us so I decided to use my free night for another Kimpton stay.

We booked the Kimpton Eventi NYC for a little staycation.

With NYC being such a popular place to visit, I wanted to share some photos of the hotel. Here’s a photo tour of the Kimpton Eventi NYC.people standing in front of a counterWe were greeted by a couple of friendly staff members before checking in. The reception area wasn’t very busy, so the process took less than 5 minutes.

Between reception and the elevators, there’s a bunch of very nice couches to relax on. We spent some time in the lobby the following day when we had to go back for something Lucas left in the room. The setup reminded me (almost) of hanging out in a living room minus the TV.a child holding a bottle and a green objectOnce we made it to the 22nd floor, Theo was excited to check out the room. (Too bad, Kim, Lucas and Theo had to wait a few minutes while I snapped some photos!)a room with a shower and a bedWhen I opened the door, here was the view of our room. The bathroom is located on the immediate left.a room with two beds and a tableAfter walking down the short corridor, you see the two Queen beds. (Kim and I felt they were a bit smaller than Queens…)

The bed was a bit softer than I like but I still got a good night’s sleep.
a city skyline at nightAs you can see, there’s also a huge window offering some nice city views.a room with a bed and a deskHere’s the view from the far side of the room, right in front of the window.a small electronic device on a wooden cabinetBetween the beds, the nightstand served two roles as it also houses the mini-fridge inside.

The tablet- looking device on top was pretty cool. It basically replaced the typical binder with hotel info and more. It included the mini-bar price list (a $15 raid the bar credit was included with the stay), general hotel info and could also be used  as a television remote.a table with a plate of food and a television on the wallAcross from the bed, a chair is wedged in between the window and a long, narrow desk.

A small TV hung above. The TV had a decent selection of channels although the kids would say otherwise. a plate of fruit on a tableA nice little welcome gift and note was left for us on the table- a plate with fruit and a couple of bottles of spring water. Nice touch Kimpton Eventi!a small closet with a bed and ironHere’s one side of the closet. Inside, there’s a safe, a couple of robes and a luggage stand.
a bathroom with marble countertop and sinkThe bathroom looks sleek in design and is all marble from what I can tell.

We liked how there was a lot of space by the sink and an appropriate amount of towels given without needing to ask for more.a shower with a glass doorThe shower has both a handle and stationary shower head. Water pressure for the handheld was a bit weak but the stationary shower head was really good.

My one issue with the shower was the lack of a shower door. I expect this kind of design in Europe, not in the US. It also happens to be one of my biggest pet peeves in hotel rooms!a group of white bottles with text on themThe bath products are from Atelier Bloem, same as the Kimpton in Philly. I guess it’s safe to say that all Kimptons use this brand?

Final Thoughts:

Overall, we had an enjoyable stay at the Kimpton Eventi. The room wasn’t huge but I wouldn’t really expect much more in NYC.

The only other thing we felt was that the room didn’t stand out in terms of design like the Kimpton did in Philly. Regardless, the room was still worth using my IHG Anniversary Free Night for.

The Kimpton Eventi NYC is located at 851 Avenue of the Americas in NYC. It’s a short walk to Koreatown, Madison Square Garden and Eataly. The Highline and Hudson Yards are around 15 minutes away on foot.

  1. When I look at the hotel’s website pictures the Elevators doors seem very small. I see you also stayed at the Kimpton in Philly so I was wondering if you could tell me if the Eventi elevators are closet size ones like the Philly one. Thank you.

  2. Pat- Thanks for the comment and good point mentioning that Broadway is also close by. I hear ya about the photos but I don’t love the way a post looks when the pictures are bigger, that’s why I like the option to click to enlarge.

  3. I think your review captures most of my sentiments. It’s a nice hotel but never achieves that “wow” factor, and I can’t put my finger on what’s missing. Maybe it’s the fact it’s a boutique hotel which wants to be fun, but has the typical NYC sterility and service. However, its location is perfect; right by Penn Station and a PATH stop, and walking distance to lots of touristy stuff (including Broadway) while being removed from the crowds and corniness.

One piece of constructive criticism for the review: make the pictures larger. I understand I can click on them to see a full-size version, but it’s more convenient to scroll through the review without the extra clicks.
