The Trump Administration wants to crack down on sexual misconduct taking place during flights.

Earlier in the week, the creation of a National In-Flight Sexual Misconduct Task Force was announced by Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao.

According to USA Today, Chao said the task force would, “review current practices, protocols and requirements of U.S. airlines in responding to and reporting allegations of sexual misconduct by passengers on board aircraft.”

Other responsibilities will be to share their ideas on “best practices” in regards to training, reporting and data collection when it comes to sexual misconduct taking place onboard commercial planes.

Members of the task force have yet to be announced. They’ll be named at a meeting after the new year on January 16.

From 2014 to 2017, in-flight sexual assault investigations by the FBI have gone up 66%. In 2014 the FBI had 38 investigations, 2015- 40, 2016- 57 and 62 in 2017.

With all of the sexual assault & sexual harassment allegations out there against the president, it’s a bit surprising that the Trump Administration would create this new task force. Hopefully, it does some good to stop this abuse in the sky.
