When it comes to sports, baseball is my favorite.
I’ve seen games in many stadiums in the US and I have also been to games in Canada, Cuba, Japan and South Korea.
A visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame is a must for any fan. I’ve been there three times and would like to go again. I also visited the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, another amazing museum all about baseball where you can also learn how bats are made.
Some players have museums dedicated to them. I visited the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum years back before catching a Baltimore Orioles game.
A while back I heard about a small museum for Hall of Famer and Yankees legend Yogi Berra, located close to home.
The Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center is located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, New Jersey.
When you arrive at the museum, the first thing you’ll notice is the life-size statue of Berra. There’s also handprints of Yogi and his wife along with bricks purchased by fans.
There’s an admission of $6 for adults ($4 for kids under 18) but we got lucky. We showed up as the museum was being set up for a private party so we were told we could go in and take a quick look.
The museum really isn’t too big so around 15-20 is all you really need unless you’re the type that likes to read every bit of information provided.
While wandering around the museum, I was really impressed by how much there was to see and how well it was presented.
There’s a set of Yogi Berra’s catching gear.
Many of Yogi’s famous quotes were written on the walls. Lucas liked seeing this Yogi Berra cow.
Any baseball fan would be impressed by the collection of awards on display.
Yogi’s 10 World Series rings were in one cabinet, another displayed his three league Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards.
For us Mets fans, there was one small area dedicated to his time with the team. Yogi Berra briefly played for the Mets, also serving as a coach and the manager.
As for the private parties… When we visited, the museum was setting up for a Bar Mitzvah. The room where ceremonies are held is really impressive. It looks like a mini- Yankees stadium, complete with ballpark style seating!
Overall, the Yogi Berra Museum is well worth a visit for any baseball fan. One of these days I might even go back for another look!
