Find Out What McDonald’s Menu Items We Tried In Cyprus!

McDonalds MenuEarlier in the year, the Michael W Travels family went on a trip to Greece and Cyprus.

During the trip we visited McDonald’s in Greece which was a bit of a letdown. I had high hopes for the McDonalds menu in Cyprus and it happened to be a bit hit!

I’ve previously written about McDonald’s we’ve visited in:

(I’ve also visited McDonald’s in many other countries that I haven’t written about.)McDonalds MenuWhile the McDonalds menu in Cyprus didn’t exactly have what I’d consider local dishes available, it did have a few really awesome items to try. In Cyprus, seafood is very popular so it was fitting to see a few items with shrimps.

Here is what we tried at McDonald’s Cyprus.

Rustic Fries:a bag of french friesAt the time we ordered the Rustic fries, I thought they just looked like fancy French fries. However, a couple of days later, we had a very similar dish served to us at a Cypriot restaurant!a hand holding a small piece of foodThese were some of the best fries that I’ve ever had at any McD’s restaurant. They had a crispy exterior which we liked. The inside was filled with a good amount of soft potato, almost the texture of mashed potatoes.

I’d definitely recommend trying this dish if you ever come across it at a McD’s.

Breaded Shrimp:a box of fried foodI first had a similar shrimp dish at McD’s in Estonia around 10 years back. I remember enjoying them but not much more than that…

The Breaded Shrimp in Cyprus comes with four pieces to an order. The shrimps are a pretty good size featuring a golden breading on the outside.a hand holding a fried shrimpWhen I took a bite, I was really impressed. The shrimps did not appear to be something a fast food restaurant would serve. They looked to be similar to a fried shrimp that I’d get at a restaurant.

Kim and Lucas each had one shrimp and really enjoyed them.

The shrimps seemed fresh, had good flavor and is something that I would’ve liked to order another time during our trip. (Too bad we didn’t make it back to McD’s again.)

Shrimp Burger:a box of food on a tableI’ve had Shrimp Burgers on two other occasions at McDonald’s that I can recall- in Japan and in South Korea. I enjoyed them both very much and expected no less from this version.

While the shrimp burgers in Asia were ground up shrimp, formed into a patty, the Cypriot version was more like whole shrimps pressed together. I’m not sure how the patty didn’t fall apart but it was delicious.a burger in a boxThe burger came on a soft & tasty seasoned bun. a burger in a boxThe shrimp patty was topped with a slice of tomato which I removed and some fresh lettuce. There was also a creamy, mildly spicy sauce which I enjoyed.a hand holding a sandwichThis is by far the best shrimp burger I’ve had at any McDonald’s. I said to Kim that I was surprised by the quality of the shrimps. It appeared to be fresh not frozen although I’m not 100% sure.

Final Thoughts:

The local McDonalds menu items in Cyprus are some of the best we’ve ever come across. If you don’t like shrimps then you’ll probably disagree. The food seemed fresher and more like a real restaurant, not a fast food place.

If time permitted, I would’ve liked to have visited one more time!

Do you like to visit McDonald’s when visiting a new country? If so, do you have a favorite menu item that you came across?

  1. I don’t eat McDonald’s at home (the U.S). But take me to another country and I’m all over it. Even regional McDonald’s in the states have different items.
Maine was serving lobster sandwiches as a test 13 years ago. They used imitation meat and were awful. But I tried strawberry banana milkshakes in Ohio. They were amazing and I wish they had caught on.

  2. I used to make a point of eating at McD when I was young…the first time I ever had kiwi was at a McD in Vienna (Austria) of all places – a kiwi sauce on a vanilla ice cream cone! I stopped eating at McD after eating at the McD on the Champs Elysees…

  3. I am planning to visit relatives in Cyprus this summer, so I’ll have to stop by to try the shrimps.

I travel regularly to Japan and always recommend the teriyaki burger there.

  4. Benji- LOL- These are from different trips over the course of many years. I can recall one time that I had McD’s in the US in last year or so! The foreign locations are well worth checking out.

  5. For someone who ‘doesn’t eat McDonalds’ you sure eat it a lot! I think I have had it once in the past 5 years. But you have inspired me to try especially the foreign versions
