World’s 1st Certified Autism Center Theme Park Is Sesame Place in PA

Sesame PlaceSesame Place is a theme park located in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.

The park is great for kids, especially younger ones. Sesame Place has also become a lot friendlier for those with autism.

Sesame Place became the first theme park in the world to become a Certified Autism Center. The news was announced on World Autism Day which was on April 2.

By become a Certified Autism Center, “all staff members at the “Sesame Street” themed amusement park will be specially trained to work with guests with autism“, according to Fox News.

The article also mentions that trainings will cover things like sensory awareness, motor skills, autism overview, program development, social skills, communication and environment and emotional awareness

The park will offer quiet rooms, noise canceling headphones and low-sensory areas for guests with autism.

Sesame Place needs to take the autism training course every two years to keep the certification.

It’s pretty incredible to hear about what Sesame is doing to help make their park more welcoming to those with autism. (For those of you who don’t already know, I teach special needs children, primarily those with autism.)

I also learned something new from the article. I didn’t know that Sesame Street had a character Julia, who has autism. She’s been around since 2015 and will also be at Sesame Place for visits!

Sesame Place opens for the 2018 season on April 28. Find out more about the park here.
