Alaska Airlines Sends E-Mail About Virgin Elevate Points

Alaska AirlinesThe Virgin Elevate program ended on December 31, 2017 and I haven’t done anything with my points.

I actually don’t have many points left in my account after redeeming most of them last summer forĀ our 5 week trip to the Pacific.

With Virgin American being folded into Alaska Airlines, Virgin points will eventually be sent to Mileage Plan.

For some time now, you’ve been able to send the points over to Alaska Airlines but if you haven’t, here’s what will happen next week.

According to the e-mail, “if you have any remaining Elevate points as of January 31, we’ll be turning them into Mileage Plan miles by February 8.”

The rate for the points transfer will be 1 Elevate point to 1.3 Mileage Plan mile.

If you’d like to use your points within the next week or so, I’d advise that you log-into your account and do the transfer on your own before January 31. If not, your points will not be available from February 1-7.

While I don’t have any plans to book an award flight with the Alaska Airlines miles, I still decided to transfer my Virgin Elevate points right away.

My Virgin balance was 17,145 points which became 22,289 Alaska miles.

I then logged into my Alaska Airlines account to check if the points transferred automatically. The points were not in my account when I checked moments later. I checked again in the evening and my Alaska balance now shows the newly transferred miles.

Did you already transfer your Virgin points to Alaska? If you haven’t, you should log-in to your account and make sure they’re linked. (Unless you want a second Alaska Air account.)

  1. My son had trouble getting gis meager balance to transfer over or get the 10,000 bonus points. He had to email Alaska twice on this but they eventually fixed it. My wife and I had no trouble. I actually cashed out my SPG and Marriott points into Virgin and into Alaska last year which was a great deal in my world.

    1. Nice! Guessing you transferred the points with a specific booking in mind? I’ve been building up my Alaska account for years, never flown them. I do expect these miles to come in handy at some point in the future.
