Queen Elizabeth II Doesn’t Need A Passport

Whenever I visit a new country, I look forward to checking out the stamp that I get in my passport. If a country doesn’t stamp my passport upon entry, I am not a happy camper…

Imagine not needing a passport for any travel. While it might make some things easier, I still love having a passport to look through at the stamps I’ve received along my many journeys.

I never really thought about people who may not need a passport. The New York Post points out that Queen Elizabeth II doesn’t need to own one! When I came across the article I definitely needed to find out why.

Besides not needing a passport, Queen Elizabeth II doesn’t need to stand in line at customs or prove who she is to immigration officials.

The reason that the Queen doesn’t need a passport is due to the fact that the are “issued in her name“.

The Post points out some info from the Royal Family website, “When traveling overseas, The Queen does not require a British passport… Her Britannic Majesty’s Secretary of State requests and requires in the name of Her Majesty all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary… As a British passport is issued in the name of Her Majesty, it is unnecessary for The Queen to possess one.”

While the Queen has this special privilege, all other members of the royal family need to have a passport.

Driver’s licenses are also issued in the Queen’s name so she’s also never had one of those (although she does drive).

  1. Sigh passports shouldn’t exist anyway. Let people move freely. They exist because of racist reasons (not because of economic or crime reasons, as immigrants help economies and commit less crime than natives). They’re the ultimate codification of racism into law.

  2. “If a country doesn’t stamp my passport upon entry, I am not a happy camper…”

I’m a bit the opposite. All those nearly identical Schengen stamps are clogging up my pages and forcing me to early renewal.
