Looking Back: The Shit Fountain- Chicago

Shit Fountain

I mentioned in my post about The Doughnut Vault that prior to heading to Chicago I was looking to find some places that seemed a bit more off the beaten path.

When I came across the Shit Fountain I knew that I had found possibly one of the oddest sites.

The fountain is located outside of a private home at 1005 N. Wolcott Avenue. It was created by Chicago artist Jerzy S. Kenar due to being pissed about locals not cleaning up after their dogs.

I felt that the reasoning for creating this work of art was totally appropriate. I just wonder how the neighbors feel about it.

From the moment we set eyes on the Shit Fountain my brother Corey and I could not stop laughing. It’s a bit out of place being in front of such a nice building but I guess it adds character to the neighborhood. The sculpture is a really awesome yet ridiculous site to see and well worth the few minutes we dedicated to our visit.

The shit sculpture is a great re-creation of dog poop (if you ask me) and no I am not a poop connoisseur. During our time at the Shit Fountain surprisingly no other visitors stopped by.We had to take a few silly (stupid) pictures while at the fountain.
Here they are:

I would love to know how many people visiting Chicago take time out of their trip to visit such a shitty fountain? If you are planning to go to Chicago, I’d recommend stopping by!

  1. Mark Jackson- That is pretty awesome! 🙂

Patrick- LOL- Not sure that I would- I don’t recall it looking very sanitary!

Carol- I definitely need to take another trip back to Chicago. It’s been too long.

  2. How about taking a drink out of it? It’s not called a fountain for nothing. (turned off in the Fall / winter time)

  3. Funny enough, I lived two house south of this fountain until a week ago. I found it hilarious and really added to the neighborhood.
