Visit LaGuardia Airport’s Marine Air Terminal During Open House New York

LaGuardia Airport Marine Air Terminal

The 13th annual Open House New York weekend will take place on October 17-18, 2015.

OHNY is a great way to gain access to hundreds of sites around the five boroughs for free which might usually be closed or charge a fee to visit.

You can find out about Open House New York 2015 in a post that I wrote over the summer.

This year, Kim and I are planning to visit a bunch of sites but there is one that really stands out which happens to do with travel.

We had an amazing time visiting the TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport back in 2013 so we figured that this year we’d go with the airport theme again.

Our plan is to head over to LaGuardia Airport early on the first day of OHNY Weekend to visit the Marine Air Terminal.

The Marine Air Terminal has open access while some sites require advance reservations. (Advance reservations begin today, October 7 at 11:00AM.)

According to OHNY, “Celebrating the glamorous early days of transatlantic air travel, the main room of the Marine Air Terminal was spectacular introduction to the adventure of flying and remains one of the city’s most distinctive Art Deco interiors“.

The terminal was an original part of LGA, which I was surprised to find out was the world’s largest and most expensive airport when it was built!

Here is another interesting fact that I learned while reading about the Marine Air Terminal on OHNY.

The Marine Air Terminals is now the only active airport terminal in the country dating to the first generation of air travel…a modest but vivid reminder of the days when flying was novel and glamorous experience“.

The Marine Air Terminal is open on both days of OHNY Weekend.

You can visit on Saturday, 10/17 and Sunday, 10/18 from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.
