So weird…

First off, I want to wish all of you a Happy New Year’s and hope that 2014 was a great one in all aspects of life (including travel of course)!

For my last post of 2014 I thought it would be fitting to share a fun articleI found from Buzzfeed.

While I find New Year’s Eve to be a highly overrated night, there are a variety of traditions around the world that countries follow.

Buzzfeed did a great job sharing some of them with us in their post “Weird New Year’s Eve Traditions Around the World“.

When I thought about this topic, the only things I came up with were the ball dropping in Times Square in NYC, kissing, wearing silly/ stupid hats & glasses and making lots of noise whether it be with fireworks or noisemakers.

Buzzfeed shared traditions of quite a few countries around the world so I’ll include a few of my favorites.

Here are my picks:

new years eve traditionsI almost forgot a tradition related to New Year’s but it takes place on New Year’s Day. An annual tradition for many is to take A Swim With the Coney Island Polar Bears which I did back in 2012!

If you know of any other New Year’s Eve (or day) traditions around the world, feel free to share them with us.

  1. In Brazil they wear all white clothes to cleanse the soul, and at midnight we took white flowers and threw them into the ocean. I was in Salvador, Brazil for 2013 New Year’s Eve. The official drink of Brazil is the Caipirinha.
