Best Underwater Adventures In the World

During my travels I’m not one that will look to do many activities that deal with water. It’s not that I’m not a good swimmer, I do consider myself to be pretty decent. The reason I am not so into water/ underwater activities is due to the fact that I (unfortunately) suffer from sea-sickness.

However, I have enjoyed snorkeling and kayaking at a variety of destinations during my trips. If an activity takes place on a lake or river then they are fair game, when in open-water like an ocean or sea then it is much more debatable.

Here are some of my favorite water activities that I’ve taken part in:

Fodor’s had a slideshow last week with (what they call) the 10 Best Underwater Adventures in the World.

I was curious to check out the list to see what they came up with.

Here they are:

  • Dive at Barracuda Point– Sipadan, Malaysia
  • See the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park– Grenada
  • Swim with Whale Sharks– Spit, Belize
  • Follow the Underwater Reef at Buck Island Reef National Monument– Buck Island, US Virgin Islands
  • Scale the Blue Corner Wall– Palau, Micronesia
  • Discover the SS Yongala Shipwreck– Queensland, Australia
  • Go Deep with Atlantis Submarine Tours– Hawaii
  • Traverse Sistema Dos Ojos– Playa del Carmen, Mexico
  • Swim with Dolphins– Costa Rica
  • Descend Into the Cathedral– Flic en Flac,  Mauritius

While looking over the list I found it interesting that I had actually heard of half of the activities from the slideshow. On the list was also an underwater activity that I’ve been wanting to try for quite some time now- swimming with whale sharks.

What are your thoughts on water and underwater activities?

  1. No drift diving in Rangiroa in Tahiti? One of the most amazing experiences of my life! Drifting along with the current in the oxygen rich channel when the tide is coming in. You could look down and see sharks stacked up below you off into the depths. Crazy.
