Free Entrance Days: U.S. National Parks in 2014

After writing earlier in the day about Fodor’s list of 10 Best National Parks To Visit This Winter, I found it fitting to post about a yearly deal related to the NPs.

Every year the National Park Service set aside a select list of dates for Free Entrance Days in the National Parks.

While I’ve really enjoyed visiting a few of the national parks, I’m sure that they are even better when they are also a great deal!

According to the NPS site, only 133 of our country’s 401 national parks usually charge a fee. So odds are in your favor that year round you won’t pay to visit one of the parks.

You could also purchase an annual pass for $80 which provides entrance to all national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests, and many other Federal lands-more than 2,000 in all.

Here are the 2014 Entrance Free Dates:

  • January 20: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • February 15-17: Presidents Day weekend
  • April 19-20: opening weekend of National Park Week
  • August 25: National Park Service Birthday
  • September 27: National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

Free Entrance Days cover: entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees.

  1. Glenn- First- Thanks for serving our country. That is a great and well deserved perk for members of the military and their families. Thanks for mentioning it here.

Grant- That is awesome and I am sure you’ll have a great time!

  2. Remember that military can get the pass for free. Just show your ID card at any park entrance and they can issue you the pass and you can add a second name so one of your dependents can also use it.

    Glenn
