10 Best Halloween Celebrations in U.S.

halloween usa

Halloween can be a really fun day for all ages. Growing up I always looked forward to this ghoulish day but as I got older, (like most I’d assume) I became less  enthusiastic about it.

In my adult life I’ve only dressed up a handful of times that I can recall. I dressed up as a baseball player, in my idea of traditional German clothing (not what I’ve worn to Oktoberfest) and DJ Lance from Yo Gabba Gabba. I may have left out one other time that I’ve dressed up but I can’t think of what I dressed as. Continue reading 10 Best Halloween Celebrations in U.S.

10 Things Not to Do at Disney World

Disney World isn’t a place that I have much of a desire to visit but due to a special little guy, I might just have to suck it up and go at some point in the not so distant future.

I had the chance to visit Disneyland in California when I was around 10 or 11 years old but have never been to Disney World. I don’t really remember much about my visit to Disneyland so to me that speaks volumes to say how little I probably enjoyed it. Continue reading 10 Things Not to Do at Disney World

Best Underwater Adventures In the World

During my travels I’m not one that will look to do many activities that deal with water. It’s not that I’m not a good swimmer, I do consider myself to be pretty decent. The reason I am not so into water/ underwater activities is due to the fact that I (unfortunately) suffer from sea-sickness.

However, I have enjoyed snorkeling and kayaking at a variety of destinations during my trips. If an activity takes place on a lake or river then they are fair game, when in open-water like an ocean or sea then it is much more debatable.  Continue reading Best Underwater Adventures In the World

Top Fall Trips For Foodies

Fodor's

I think most of you would agree that food plays a very big part when it comes to travel.

I’ve never taken a local cooking course or went on a trip with the main reason being the food. (I have had a few trips inspired by beer in the past though!) However, Kim and I have gone on our own mini-food tours during trips in the past.

Here are a few that come to mind:

  • Trying lobster rolls (and whoopie pies) in Maine
  • Eating lots of pizza around Rome
  • Trying some of New Haven’s great apizza
  • Sampling some great cheesesteaks in Philadelphia
  • A never-ending quest to try out the best pizza and burgers around Brooklyn and NYC for that matter.

10 Best State Fairs in the U.S.

The State Fair is an event that I’ve long wanted to experience in person but still haven’t had a chance to attend.

It wasn’t until (probably) around 5 years ago that I even know much about them. (I still don’t really know exactly what they are like!)

When I think of a state fair, the thing that most comes to mind is strange food thanks to an episode of Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods show based on the Minnesota State Fair. Last summer, while visiting Minnesota we went to a  Twins game. At the game we got to try out some of these offerings at the stadium’s State Fair Classics stand. Top Packing Tips

Everyone seems to have their opinion when it comes to packing.

Rolling or folding your clothes, carry-on or checking your bags, wheeled luggage or a backpack. These are some of the choices you need to make when packing for a trip whether it’s for business or pleasure.

For me, I tend to roll my clothes, check my bag and travel with a backpack. The rare times that I’ve traveled without Kim, I’ve brought a carry-on.

I recently came across an article sharing Top Packing Tips from Fodor’s Readers. These tips aren’t really about how to pack. They are more about things to do or bring to help make packing easier. Continue reading Top Packing Tips

10 Places To Go This Summer

Fodor'sFodor’s wants to help you decide on where to go this summer.  They’ve come up with a list of 10 can’t miss destinations for summer 2014.

The destinations vary quite a bit. From the World Cup in Brazil to Vienna Jazz Fest or destinations closer to home like the Aspen Ideas Festival and Glacier Skywalk in the Canadian Rockies (which I’d LOVE to go to). Some destinations with new hotels also made the list. Continue reading 10 Places To Go This Summer

20 Places To See Abroad Before You Die

a close-up of a logoWhile I don’t have a bucket list (I actually really dislike the term and idea of it), I still have a mental list of certain countries and sites that I’d love to see and explore some day.

If I had to make a short list of top places I’d recommend to visit that I’ve already been to, it would look something like this:

America’s Best Chocolate Shops

So who doesn’t like chocolate? I think I’d be hard-pressed to find one person raising their hand in a room of 100 people.

I’ll admit that I love chocolate, especially dark. I’ve sampled amazing chocolates all over the world and enjoy trying out local shops and brands.

When it comes to chocolate, one trip stands out. During a quick trip to Belgium, my brother and I had lots of fun sampling amazing chocolates from lots of different shops. (FYI- The beer was pretty darn good too!)

I came across an article about America’s Best Chocolate Shops from Fodor’s earlier in the month.
