Earn Southwest Points With A New Mortgage

a close-up of a credit card

Since flying Southwest at the end of December, I’ve written about being a big fan
They also offer a really cool perk for kids, although it may be very hard to find.

I find Southwest points to be extremely valuable due to having Companion Pass status. This allows Kim to fly for free on any flight that I book using cash or points.
Companion Pass status is reached by earning 110,000 points in a year. I earned it by getting the Southwest Airlines Personal and Business credit cards. Each card came with a bonus of 50,000 miles after a minimum amount of spend. I earned the rest of the points needed by just using the credit cards to pay various bills.

Here is a way to earn some valuable Southwest Rapid Rewards Points by getting a new mortgage with Chase.
You can earn:

Mortgage Loan Amount   Rapid Reward Points:
up to $249,999                       12,500 points
$250,000- $500,000               25,000 points
$500,001 & higher                  50,000 points
**Plus get 2,500 bonus points with a Chase mortgage on a new home purchase

The 2,500 bonus points are only available for new closed purchase mortgages for one to four family properties with residential mortgages.

Applications must be submitted by 4/21/13 to earn the bonus

JetBlue TrueBlue- Be Careful With Your Points

Invalid request error occurred.

In early November I came across some very important information regarding jetBlue’s mileage program- TrueBlue.

I had a little over 25,000 TrueBlue points in my account (thanks to the jetBlue Amex card sign up bonus) that were going to expire on December 31. There isn’t any dining or shopping program affiliated with JetBlue. I figured that I could just transfer a small amount of American Express Membership Rewards points to my TrueBlue account to extend the expiration date.

While chatting with my brother, I told him my plan to keep my TrueBlue account active. He told me that he had heard that transfering points would not help to extend my account’s points from expiring!

I was totally surprised by this information. I checked online and called JetBlue. They had confirmed that what my brother had said was true.

The only ways to keep jetBlue points from expiring is:

  1. Earn points by flying
  2. Use your jetBlue American Express card on eligible purchases

Earning points by either of these methods must be done at least once in a 12 month period.

I wasn’t looking to pay for a flight on jetBlue and I no longer had the JB Amex card so I had to get creative and use these miles before I lost them.

My original plan was to find a flight for Kim and I that would be covered by my TrueBlue miles. I searched quite a bit and didn’t come up with much. I found flights from NYC to Portland, Maine or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but we decided against these options.

I had to start thinking of some other ideas and decided to use my points towards a trip to New Orleans for May 2013.

I booked a flight on Southwest from New York to New Orleans for 9,600 points thanks to the SW Companion Pass. For the flight home I booked the flight from New Orleans back to New York with my jetBlue points.

In the end, I still have around 4,000 TrueBlue points left. Odds are they will just expire but at least I found a good way to put most of my points to use.

This is just a friendly reminder that if you have jetBlue points expiring soon be careful. If you don’t have the jetBlue Amex or plan to purchase a JB flight soon, you better start thinking about booking a flight with your points.

Priority Club: 1,000 Points For Your Thoughts

a blue and white logo

Last year one of my most popular posts was one where I was giving away codes to watch a 90 second video to earn 1,000 Priority Club points.

I’m pretty sure that everyone loves free points so I figured I might as well share another offer that I saw a while back on frequent flyer site Milepoint.

Milepoint member Miles and Smiles created a post about filling out a quick survey to earn 1,000 PC points.
According to the terms, only Priority Club Rewards members that received the offer by e-mail are eligible to participate. Bonus points get deposited 4-6 weeks after completion of the survey.

I didn’t receive an e-mail for this offer but decided to take a chance and fill out the survey.
Now I’m just hoping that the 1,000 bonus points post to my account.

I figured that I had nothing to lose and neither do you.

If you have a Priority Club account, make sure to fill out the survey HERE and take a chance at being rewarded with an easy 1,000 points

Last year one of my most popular posts was when I was giving out codes to earn 1,000
Priority Club points for watching a 90 second video.

The codes have long ran out but here is another great offer to earn-

For switching over to eStatements you will earn 500 bonus points!

Follow these steps to switch to eStatements:

  1. Log on to your Priority Club account at priorityclub.com/email
  2. Under Edit Email Subscriptions select eStatements
  3. Save the changes

The 500 points bonus offer is good until December 31, 2012 (and you must remain opted in to eStatements until then). Bonus points should post in 6- 8 weeks.

Reminder to Register Your Cards For Dining & Shopping Portals

a hand holding a credit card
I’ve been meaning to write a post regarding earning extra miles and points for doing things that we do on a regular basis- Shopping & Dining.

I went online to update my AAdvantage Dining Program account. When I logged in, I saw the image above. This got me thinking- It’s time to write that post!

We are now well into 2012 and I’m sure that many of us have received lots of great, new credit cards. The main chunk of miles and points come from signup bonuses but let’s remember that every mile counts! Take a few minutes to go through you wallet and double check that all of your new cards are registered in airline, hotel and credit card Shopping & Dining portals. Just about everybody has one.

Also- if you have any airline and hotel accounts with expiring miles, an easy way to extend the date is by earning miles by shopping and dining.
