Getting Ready For A Quick Trip to Philly

When Megabus announced that they were giving away 200,000 Free Seats back in December I decided to book seats for my brother and I to Philadelphia. Kim wasn’t off work when I was looking to go so I figured that I’d sneak away for a quick trip.

Our free seats cost $.50 round trip to go from NYC to Philly! (Megabus charges a $.50 reservation fee for all reservations.) Talk about an amazing deal! Not included in our price is taking the subway from Brooklyn to Manhattan which costs $2.25 per person each way.

Just for fun I decided to try pricing our Megabus itinerary last night. If we were to book our seats for the exact same time & date it would cost $36.50. This still sounds extremely reasonable when you think about what gas and tolls cost these days.

I haven’t used Megabus in about 2 or 3 years and am actually looking forward to the ride. I’m curious to see how comfortable the bus is and how well the wifi works. I’ll get to find out when my bus leaves in a few hours.

We’ll have about 27 hours in Philadelphia. I’ve been there many times, the last time being about 2 years ago. We have some ideas of things to do but nothing definite. I think we’ll just see how the day goes and wing it.

Make sure to check back for a recap of my time in Philly later in the week!

Last December I wrote about Megabus giving away 200,000 Free Seats and this year they are back at it!

Megabus is giving away 200,000 FREE Seats, good for travel to cities around the U.S. and Canada. (Megabus serves over 120 cities in North America)

Kim and I have used Megabus many times and always found it to be a good and cheap alternative to driving to places where a car is not needed. Megabus is also much cheaper than taking the train. The buses are comfortable and have free wifi & power outlets available at each seat.

I haven’t taken a trip with Megabus in around two years but decided to take advantage of the free seat offer this time around.

I booked a couple of seats from NYC to Philadelphia for my brother and I. The total cost for our trip (yes round trip) was $0.50! Our seats were free but Megabus charges a $0.50 booking fee.

The free seat offer is available for travel between January 9 and February 28, 2013.

Some exclusions:

Due to local regulations within Canada, free seats for travel to Kirkland and Montreal are excluded, however additional $10 seats have been made available. Within the USA, Academy (New York – Atlantic City), Concord (Portland – Boston), ShortLine (New York – Binghamton), Van Galder (Chicago – Madison) and Suburban *New York – New Brunswick – Princeton) bus lines will also be excluded from the free seats offer.

Megabus- 200,000 Free Seats

I’ve used Megabus a few times and the service was very good and inexpensive.
I paid around $12.00 roundtrip for my wife and I to go from NY-DC and a drop more for us to go from NY-Baltimore just to mention a couple of times we’ve used them.

Megabus is giving away 200,000 free seats from January 4- March 1, 2012. They travel to over 70 US cities & Toronto. Their buses offer free wifi and power outlets so you can use your travel time surfing the web. When I used the wifi it was spotty at times but that was a couple of years ago. Maybe they have improved the service since.

To book free tickets, use code GOFREE at the Megabus site.
