JFK Runway Run 2013- Date Announced

a group of people running

In 2012 I ran in four 5K Airport Runway Runs. The first runway run that I participated in was at JFK Airport in New York. It was a really fun event with a huge turnout. There were some great views of planes taking off and a generous raffle which gave away many flights!

Even though I didn’t win a flight I still had a great time (and workout) and have been looking forward to the 2013 run.

The other runway runs that I participated in were:

I just received an e-mail from the race coordinators announcing the date for the 2013
JFK Runway Run. The race will be on Sunday, April 14, 2013.

Besides the date for the 2013 race, there was no other information. The site said details to follow- not so helpful!

However, there was a link to register online for the race. I clicked the link and was happy to see loads of information about the race!

Here are the details:

  • Race starts at 9:00AM
  • Number pickup- race day of only- 7:00- 8:40AM at Building 14
  • Online registration closes April 13 at 6:00AM

The Prize

I wrote a post about my experience running a 5K in the JFK Runway Run last week.

I knew that the contest was limited as to who would be interested since I only had a specific size to give away.
The contest had a couple of entries and I am happy to announce that comment #1 from spe salvi was selected by random.org as the winner!
Congrats to spe salvi!

Please leave a comment on this post or e-mail me at michaelwtravels@gmail.com  so we can get in touch and I can send you out the prize!

KLM- Connect with Meet & Seat

a plane with social media icons
Here is another interesting way to put social networking to use for travel.

KLM has started a new program called Meet & Seat.
It allows you to see who’s on board your flight and get in touch with other passengers by connecting your Facebook and/ or LinkedIn account to your KLM booking profile.

KLM says you can meet other interesting travelers and increase networking opportunities- “Choose for yourself whether you want to meet for a coffee before the flight, select adjoining seats or share a cab to the conference you are both attending”. It sounds to me like it could become another form of internet dating or hook-up opportunities!

Meet & Seat is available for:
  • Bookings with 1 passenger
  • KLM flights between Amsterdam and New York, San Francisco  and Sao Paulo
  • From 90 days until 48 hours before departure
  • Will be available on more KLM flights soon

TSA Pre-Check Program Coming to JFK Airport

How would you like to go through a speedier screening process at the airport??? I am sure that we all would. The TSA’s Pre-Check Program will be coming to JFK Airport in NY this year.
(no exact date was announced)
It is already being used at several other airports as a pilot program and open to select individuals.

The program includes no longer removing items like:

  • Shoes
  • 3-1-1 compliant bag from carry on
  • Laptops
  • Light jackets
  • Belts

It is currently available at:

  • Atlanta: T-South Checkpoint (Delta only)
  • Dallas: Terminal C, Checkpoint C30 (American only)
  • Detroit: Checkpoint 2 on the ticketing level (Delta only)
  • Miami: D2 Checkpoint (American only)
  • Las Vegas: D Gates First Class Checkpoint (American and Delta

The program is currently open to:

  • Frequent Flyers: Delta Air Lines and American Airlines (AA) have contacted eligible frequent flyers with an invitation to opt-in. Once the passenger opts in, the airline identifies the individual as a TSA Pre-Check participant when submitting passenger reservation information to TSA’s Secure Flight system.
  • Custom and Border Protection Trusted Travelers (Current members of CBP’s Global Entry, SENTRI and NEXUS Trusted Traveler programs are automatically eligible to participate in TSA Pre-Check)

Happy Holidays 2011

Last year we flew business class to Italy on Christmas Day with British Airways. The airport was quieter than expected. Our flight didn’t leave until late at night so we had a nice time in the BA Terrace Lounge at JFK airport in Terminal 7. The snacks were decent but we were allowed into the dining area which worked out well.
We sat upstairs in business class which was not too busy. Everyone was in a great mood and some of the flight attendants were wearing santa hats.
My wife & I and some other passengers were taking pictures and a couple of flight attendants offered to let us wear their santa hats. The hats definitely added some fun to our pre-flight photo-op.

This year we are home for the holidays! My wife and I are expecting our first child in a few weeks! I look forward to having another travel companion very soon!!!
I hope that everyone has a happy holidays and there are lots of great mileage earning opportunities, trips & flights planned for 2012!
