In this weeks Travel News post, I included a link to the tragic story about a woman dying after falling from the balcony of the Carnival Elation cruise ship.

It looks like tragedy struck again as a woman was seen falling overboard on the Carnival Triumph.

The 44 year-old woman fell into the Gulf of Mexico yesterday. The ship had left New Orleans. It was the second day of a five day voyage.

The Miami Herald reports that, “All appropriate authorities have been notified and Carnival’s CARE Team is providing support and assistance to the guest’s family“, according to Vance Gulliksen, spokesman for Carnival.

At the time of the article, the Mexican Navy had released the Carnival Triumph from search and rescue operations. The ship was on its way to Cozumel. Mexican authorities were “leading a search and rescue operation by air and sea.”

At this point, I’m guessing it’s more of a recovery effort as I can’t imagine the woman surviving the fall from the ship.
