Free Amex Centurion Lounge Uber Ride Earned SPG Points

Amex Centurion Lounge

Back in November news spread about an offer to get two free Uber rides at the Amex Centurion Lounge in New York’s LaGuardia Airport. The rides have to originate at the airport and go to a destination within the five boroughs.

When we arrived at the Centurion Lounge on the way to Toronto, I asked for an Uber code. The rep at the desk said that we could only get a code when arriving at the airport from a flight and not when departing on a flight.

I couldn’t imagine why this mattered considering each pass was good for two free rides. I wanted the code just in case we couldn’t make it to the lounge when we got back home.

It turned out that not getting the Uber pass would cost us. Our flight to Toronto was cancelled at close to midnight. By that time the lounge was closed so I couldn’t go back in to ask for the free ride code!

Our missed free Uber ride isn’t the point of this post, the value of the free rides are.

When Kim, Lucas and I got back to LGA, we got our bag and headed straight to the Centurion Lounge. We were handed a complimentary Uber ride code without even asking.

Before grabbing some food,  I added the promo code to my Uber Account and received this confirmation.

We then relaxed in the lounge for a short while before heading home.

I wasn’t sure which level of Uber service was included with the free ride offer so I headed over to the Centurion Lounge check-in desk and was told we could take an Uber Black!

I could only imagine what a ride with Uber Black would cost. I did a fare estimate just before ordering the car.

I’d estimate a ride home in a taxi could cost anywhere from $50- $70 so this ride was definitely going to be substantially higher. Since the ride was on Uber and the Centurion Lounge, why would I mind!

We waited for a few minutes for our ride to show up. Then it took a few minutes to actually locate him due to some confusion. Our driver, Elshan was driving a very nice Lexus ES.

After 45 minutes, we were home. I was really curious to see what this Uber Black would’ve cost to get us home.

Thanks to the free ride code, our price was $0 but if we were paying, it would’ve cost a staggering $129.88!

It made me wonder just who would actually take an Uber Black home from the airport? (My guess is somebody expensing their ride…)

I was just checking my SPG account to see if the 10,000 Starpoints that I won in the SPG Design Game had posted. I didn’t think they would since the rules stated that the points would post when the game was over.

While skimming over My Recent Activity in the account, I was surprised to see that I had earned 130 Starpoints from my pricey Uber ride home from LGA.

This was interesting since my Uber bill clearly showed the price as $0.00 while also stating Complimentary Ride from American Express.

While 130 points aren’t much, I’ll still take whatever points I can get for free.

And too bad that I can’t make use of the other free Uber ride home from LaGuardia! It would’ve been nice to get another free Uber Black ride.

Have any of you taken a free Uber ride courtesy of the Amex Centurion Lounge?

  1. Graham- I can’t see why that ride wouldn’t be eligible. The offer states that rides must start at LGA and end within the five boroughs of NYC. LGA to JFK would fulfill those terms. Enjoy NYC if your visiting!

  2. Random question, but if one were to fly into LGA, and needed to transfer over to JFK for a later flight, would that ride be eligible for the promo? Not familiar enough with the boroughs and how the airports are classified within them (if at all). Thanks.
