Pepper Spray Used on JetBlue Flight

Pepper Spray

I’d love to know how pepper spray was allowed to be brought onboard this flight…

A JetBlue flight from Kingston, Jamaica to New York ‘s JFK ended with a fight between two women once the plane landed. Weapons used in this fight included an eyebrow razor and pepper spray, according to the NY Post.

So what caused the fight?

According to the Post, passenger Jean Ballentine of Brooklyn, NY tried climbing over other passengers as they were about to get off of the plane. Ballentine then punched and slashed another passenger, Mary Cannady of Linden, NJ. Another passenger that tried to stop the fight also got slashed.

Cannady fought back by using pepper spray. I can’t imagine what that must’ve been like for the 179 passengers onboard, especially since the plane’s doors were still closed.

When I first saw the headline for the story, I wondered how such things could even get onboard the flight. The Post mentions that JetBlue said “Security screenings in the island nation are handled by the Jamaican Civil Aviation Authority“. Definitely weird…

The man who got cut on his arm and one woman complaining of breathing problems were taken to the hospital. Six other passengers were treated for breathing problems “on the scene“.

Ballentine was charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Cannady received a summons for unlawful possession of tear gas.

  1. Never mind how pepper spray was allowed aboard an airplane…

…I always wanted to know why a person who uses pepper spray on someone else is charged by police with a salt…
