The 25 Top Landmarks in the World

World landmarks

TripAdvisor has been coming out with their Traveler’s Choice picks for a variety of categories like Top Tourist Destinations and the Top Islands to Visit for 2015 in recent months.

The selections chosen for TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice are “chosen by millions of travelers”. Other categories include hotels and beaches.

I was particularly interested in checking out the newest list, World Wonders 2015 featuring the 25 Top World Landmarks!

It’s always fun to check out these lists to see just how many of these top sites/ destinations I’ve been to.

While looking over the Top 25 Landmarks list, I wasn’t so surprised that I had visited many of them over the years.

Here is TripAdvisor’s list of World Wonders 2015: (I’ve bolded the one’s I’ve visited)

  1. Angkor Wat
  2. Machu Picchu
  3. Taj Mahal
  4. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
  5. La Sagrada Familia
  6. St. Peter’s Basilica
  7. Milan Cathedral
  8. Alcatraz
  9. Cristo Redentor
  10. Golden Gate Bridge
  11. Eiffel Tower
  12. Church of the Savior on Blood
  13. Notre Dame Cathedral
  14. The Alhambra
  15. Hagia Sophia
  16. Charles Bridge
  17. Great Wall at Mutianyu
  18. Lincoln Memorial
  19. Burj Khalifa
  20. The National September 11 Memorial
  21. Wat Pho
  22. Chichen Itza
  23. Sydney Opera House
  24. Petronas Twin Towers
  25. Panama Canal

So far I’ve been to 19/25 of these World Wonders. I could probably even say that I’ve been to a 20th wonder. During my trip to Dubai in 2009 I drove by the Burj Khalifa many times with a cab driver even driving onto the construction site so I could get an extremely close-up look.¬†Either way, I’ll be visiting the Burj Khalifa in August as well as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

From this list of wonders, it would be hard to pick favorites although I would have to agree with the top two picks! If I could add one site/ area, I’d select Bagan, Myanmar. My guess is that it doesn’t qualify since it is made up of over 2,000 temples.

How many of TripAdvisor’s Top 25 Landmarks have you been to? Do you have any favorites?

  1. When you go to india, you MUST go to the Dehli Akshardham. (www.Akshardham.com) there is a full day worth of things to see there! From exhibits about india’s achievements via boat ride, to an Imax film produced specially for the venue, To a monument made by hand carved marble. Check it out!

  2. Alex- That is a good one which I still need to visit! After looking over the list again, I have a few more that are worthy of inclusion- Petra, Cappadocia & the Moai on Easter Island.
